NW12-027 Questions for Northwest Vice President Elections.

It is moved that: the following questions be submitted to the applicants for the Northwest Regional Vice Presidential Candidates and their response be included in the Voter’s Guide.

  1. Why are you interested in the Vice President Position?
  2. How will you represent the NW region as a regional Vice President?
  3. What experience and skills would you bring to the Executive Board?
  4. What do you see as the primary challenges the NW Region faces and what are your solutions?

NW12-026 Motion to support the Dec. 1 rally in Opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

It is moved that: the SPEEA Northwest Council authorize a contribution to the Washington Fair Trade Coalition in the amount of $3000 to assist with the costs associated with the December 1st rally. And be it further moved that the SPEEA Northwest Council support costs, in the amount of $2000, for transportation of interested SPEEA members via bus or rental vans.

MW12-025 Continuing support of locked-out Bakery Confectionary Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) workers and the national corporate campaign against American Crystal Sugar.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council shall demonstrate its continued support for the locked-out Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers at American Crystal Sugar by requesting that the SPEEA Executive Board provide a contribution of $3,000.00 to the Minnesota AFL-CIO, 175 Aurora Ave., St. Paul, MN 55103.

 

It is further moved that SPEEA will support a boycott of all American Crystal products if a
boycott is declared by the AFL-CIO and will advocate that all SPEEA members and the public
support the boycott.

MW12-024 Support of unorganized workers at Wal-Mart Warehouses and stores on walk out strikes in California, Illinois, Texas, Washington, Maryland, Washington DC, Missouri, Kentucky, Minnesota, and Floria.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council will ask the SPEEA Executive Board to support, for 2000.00 (or union store cards) with funds from the labor support budget line item, and to send letters of support to the various groups.

 

It is further moved to publicize opportunities for SPEEA members to send emails of support and voluntarily contribute money to the striking workers.

NW12-019 Support For Teamster Local #117 Strike Against DAvis Wire Company in Kent, WA.

It is moved that: The NW Council Supports Teamster Local #117 in their economic sanction against the Davis Wire Company and requests the SPEEA Executive Board take the necessary steps to demonstrate SPEEA’s support.


It is further moved: The NW Council strongly recommends a letter be sent to Teamster Local #117’s leadership offering our support.


It is further moved: The NW Council requests the SPEEA Executive Board support, providing $3,000 to Teamster Local #117 out of the annually budgeted labor support fund.

NW12-018 Support of IFPTE Pre-Submitted Convention Resolutions.

It is moved that: The NW SPEEA Council recommends that NW IFPTE delegates support the pre-submitted motions on the IFPTE WEB site, and trusts the delegates to caucus and decide on these motions if changed prior to the vote, or if modified by motions raised during debate on motions.

 

It is further moved: The delegates report back to the council the motions they voted on.

M12-016 Support For The Principles Of Trade Reform Promoted By The Coalition For A Prosperous America And Supported By The AFL-CIO.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council support the principles of trade reform promoted by the Coalition for a Prosperous America and supported by the AFL-CIO. As such, SPEEA will be signatory to the “21st Century Trade Agreement Principles” document to be shared with Congress and the Administration.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council supports State and National efforts to reverse the 2010 Citizens United ruling and to limit the power of corporations from having the same constitutional rights as people.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council supports IFPTE members under attack and approves the following:

 

1. Directs the SPEEA IFPTE delegates to support the IFPTE 2013 sustainability fund budget.

It is moved that: The Northwest Council supports efforts to limit the power of corporations from having the same Free Speech rights as people.

M12-010 CESO Delegate Direction.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council directs the SPEEA CESO delegates to submit and support a motion at the CESO meeting to revise the CESO rules of procedure (Article IX. Finance) from “No individual unit shall contribute more than 50% of the quarterly per capita dues” to “No individual unit shall contribute more than 25% of the quarterly per capita dues”.

NW12-008 Support for WA State Labor Education & Research Center and WA State Labor Archive.

It is moved that: the SPEEA Northwest Regional Council demonstrate its support for the Washington State Labor Education and Research Center (LERC) and the Washington State Labor Archive by making a contribution of $10,000 ($7.500 for the LERC and $2,500 for the Labor Archive) for each of the next three (3) fiscal years, to begin in our 2012-2013 fiscal year.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council oppose S 1747, the Computer Professionals Update Act, and related legislation meant to further restrict overtime protections from technical worker classifications. Furthermore, the Council permits SPEEA staff to advocate against said measures.
